With our help the Hero campaign we are naming all runners, running in behalf of VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam, our Heroes. As true Heroes they will help us in taking a big step in researching cancer by raising money. The money they raise through donations and sponsoring will benefit the super resolution microscope that is on the wish list of the cancer center.
Cancer happens to all of us: in every family or circle of friends there is someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. In Holland alone, 50.000 people die of cancer, every single year.
VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam wants to prevent and cure cancer. Our objective is for less people to die of cancer and to prolong life for people with cancer. It is our mission to force a breakthrough by developing innovative treatments. As one of the top of research institutes in the Netherlands and Europe our patients naturally receive the best care we can give them.
But there’s always need and room for improvement. To achieve this, VUmc CCA would like to buy a superresolutionmicoscope. A new, revolutionairy microscope, so we can have a better look into the cancer cell, and can see every single detail of it. The microscope can do even more than this: this microscope can show cancer cells that are still alive, in 3D! With this new technology our researchers, for instance, will be able to see how living cancer cells are reacting on different types of medicine. Live! This will help researchers understand cancer even better, so in the future we could be able to improve cancer treatment.
The VUmc CCA researchers wish for the Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X superresolution-microscope. With €200.000 we can buy the basics of the microscope. It’s a modular microscope, so with all the extra funds we will raise, we will be able to create the absolute top microscope of our dreams. We aim high, just as our Heroes, we aim for 1.000.000 to buy the complete version, in order to make the most of our work fighting and curing cancer.
